The Detroit Lions made significant roster moves before their Week 3 matchup against the New York Jets, placing safety Thomas Harper on injured reserve.
The move is another setback for a secondary already dealing with multiple absences. Harper will not be eligible to return until Week 7 because of the injured reserve rules.
Detroit loses another safety
Harper joins Avonte Maddox on injured reserve, while Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph also remain unavailable.
As a result, Detroit enters Sunday's matchup against the Jets without four of its top safeties.
Jalen Mills gets another opportunity
To strengthen the position, the Lions elevated Jalen Mills from the practice squad to the active roster. Detroit also elevated linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga.
Christian Izien is expected to take on an important role in the secondary against the Jets as Detroit looks for defensive stability despite its lack of available safeties.
