The Cleveland Browns received an important update on Mason Graham after the defensive tackle left Thursday night's victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers with an injury.
An MRI revealed an MCL sprain and an ankle sprain. Graham is expected to miss several weeks, although the Browns remain optimistic that the injury will not become a long-term issue.
Graham had been off to a strong start
The injury is a significant setback for Cleveland because Graham had emerged as one of the team's most productive defensive players early in the season.
The defensive tackle was leading the Browns with four sacks through the opening weeks, while also recording 15 tackles and five quarterback hits.
Cleveland must replace his production
Graham suffered the injury during the first quarter against Pittsburgh and did not return to the game. The Browns will now need increased contributions from players such as Mike Hall Jr. and Maliek Collins while the rookie recovers.
Cleveland improved to 3-1 with its 27-24 victory over the Steelers and will look to maintain its strong start while waiting for one of its most important defensive linemen to return.
