The Washington Commanders suffered a major setback in Week 2 when quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered another dislocation of his left elbow during Washington's 37-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Daniels was injured just before halftime on a play near the Dallas goal line. After a teammate accidentally stepped on his foot, Daniels lost his balance and reached out with his left arm to brace himself, resulting in the elbow injury.
Initial X-rays show no fracture
Initial X-rays did not show a fracture, but Daniels will undergo additional testing to determine whether there is any ligament damage and to establish the full extent of the injury.
Washington has not established a timetable for his return. Head coach Dan Quinn said the team will rally around Marcus Mariota while Daniels is sidelined.
Daniels was productive before the injury
Before leaving the game, Daniels completed 11 of 17 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 69 yards on seven carries.
The injury occurred with Washington trying to score near the end of the first half.
Marcus Mariota takes over
Mariota finished the game at quarterback and will be Washington's primary option while the team determines how long Daniels will be unavailable.
The Commanders are now 0-2 and will prepare to host the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3.
