The New York Giants are waiting for more information on Jaxson Dart after the quarterback suffered a left knee injury during Monday night's loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
Dart was injured on New York's opening offensive drive when he was hit while attempting to throw a pass. His left knee buckled during the contact, and he eventually left the field under his own power.
Initial X-rays were negative
X-rays performed after the injury did not show a fracture. The Giants will now conduct an MRI to determine whether there is damage to the medial collateral ligament and establish a recovery timeline.
The initial evaluation points toward a possible MCL sprain, although the team is waiting for the MRI results before confirming the diagnosis.
Jameis Winston finished the game
After Dart left, Jameis Winston took over at quarterback. The veteran completed 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and threw one interception in the Giants' 28-6 loss to the Rams.
Head coach John Harbaugh said after the game that the team would know more once the MRI results were available.
Giants prepare for Week 3
New York now has to quickly turn its attention to the next game, with the Giants scheduled to host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, September 27.
Dart's availability will be one of the biggest storylines throughout the week as New York waits for the medical evaluation and determines who will start at quarterback.
