The Dallas Cowboys made one of the biggest moves of the young season by acquiring cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Dallas is sending Pittsburgh a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick for the defensive back, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract.
Porter addresses a major need
The move comes at an important time for Dallas. The Cowboys have dealt with several injuries in their secondary, including Cobie Durant and Shavon Revel Jr., making cornerback one of the team's biggest needs.
Porter has not played this season because of a back injury and a contract dispute with Pittsburgh. In 2025, he started all 14 games he played and finished with 52 tackles, 14 passes defended, one interception and one sack.
A fresh start for Joey Porter Jr.
Porter was selected by the Steelers with the 32nd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 47 career games, including 41 starts, with 165 tackles, 31 passes defended and three interceptions.
Dallas is now betting on his talent to strengthen a defense that needs to improve quickly as the Cowboys look to recover from a 1-2 start.
