The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing back veteran tight end Zach Ertz after Dallas Goedert suffered a knee injury during Philadelphia's Week 2 victory over Tennessee.
Ertz will initially join the practice squad, with the possibility of being promoted to the active roster for the Eagles' upcoming matchup against the Chicago Bears.
Dallas Goedert expected to miss multiple weeks
Goedert suffered an MCL sprain during Philadelphia's victory over the Titans. The tight end was injured while blocking and left the game after recording one reception for four yards.
His absence leaves Philadelphia with fewer options at tight end after other players at the position have also dealt with injuries.
Zach Ertz returns to Philadelphia
Ertz returns to the team that selected him in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He spent his first eight seasons with the Eagles and earned three Pro Bowl selections.
During his first stint in Philadelphia, Ertz recorded 579 receptions and became one of the most productive tight ends in franchise history.
He is now only 11 receptions away from passing Harold Carmichael for the Eagles' all-time franchise record for catches.
Eagles prepare for Chicago
Philadelphia will host the Chicago Bears on Monday, September 28, in the final game of Week 3.
Ertz gives the Eagles an experienced option at tight end while Goedert works his way back from his knee injury.
