Patriots Place Mack Hollins on Injured Reserve After Losing Leading Receiver

The New England Patriots suffered a significant offensive setback after placing Mack Hollins on injured reserve because of a calf injury.

Hollins sustained the injury during New England's 29-26 victory over the Buffalo Bills on October 4. The move, announced Saturday, October 10, means the receiver must miss at least four games.

Hollins was New England's leading receiver

The loss is a considerable blow to the Patriots because Hollins had led the team with 15 receptions for 209 yards through the opening weeks of the season.

His ability to gain yards after the catch and provide experience to the receiving group had been valuable to an offense looking to remain consistent around its quarterback.

Patriots must redistribute receiving opportunities

With Hollins sidelined, other receivers will need to take on larger roles in the offense. Available options include Romeo Doubs, DeMario Douglas, Efton Chism III and Kyle Williams.

New England also placed fullback Reggie Gilliam on injured reserve because of ankle and knee issues. To address the roster openings, the team activated safety Brenden Schooler and added cornerback Kindle Vildor.

The Patriots must now reorganize their personnel while Hollins recovers. His return cannot come before he completes the minimum absence required by his placement on injured reserve.
