The Minnesota Vikings confirmed a major absence for their Week 4 matchup: Justin Jefferson will not play against the Miami Dolphins because of the left ankle sprain he suffered during Minnesota's victory over Tampa Bay.
Jefferson did not participate in any of the Vikings' three practices this week and was officially listed as out on the team's final injury report.
Jefferson will wait another week
The receiver suffered the injury during Minnesota's opening possession in Tampa Bay. Although there was initially hope that he could recover in time to face Miami, the Vikings decided not to rush his return.
Jefferson has been one of Minnesota's most important offensive weapons early in the season. Through three games, he has recorded 13 receptions for 179 yards and two touchdowns.
Jordan Addison will have a bigger role
With Jefferson sidelined, Jordan Addison is expected to take on a larger role in the passing game. Addison is coming off a strong performance against Tampa Bay, where he caught five passes for 90 yards and a touchdown.
Head coach Kevin O'Connell said Jefferson is feeling better and that the team expects him to return to practice next week.
