Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen expressed his full support for head coach Sean McDermott after the team's playoff exit at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs. In a close game, the Chiefs won 32-29, denying the Bills a spot in Super Bowl LIX.
The loss marks the fourth time in Allen and McDermott's careers that they have fallen to the Chiefs in the postseason, leaving their record at a frustrating 0-4. However, Allen has not lost faith in his coach's leadership.
Full Confidence in McDermott
At a press conference held Monday in Buffalo, Allen expressed his pride and admiration for McDermott, who has been a key figure in the Bills' transformation in recent years:
"This is going to sound weird, but I'm very proud of the coach," Allen said. “I don't know why he isn't recognized more in terms of awards. That's the worst part of it all. But time and time again, he's put us in position to win. … We're fighting to overcome that obstacle, and he's giving his life for this. He's so committed to doing whatever it takes.”
A team still looking to make the leap
Since McDermott took over, the Bills have won five AFC East titles, cementing themselves as consistent contenders. However, they have yet to reach the Super Bowl under his leadership.
Despite the questions following the recent elimination, Allen reiterated his confidence that McDermott is the right person to take the Bills to the next level.
“We're so close to achieving it, and I know we'll get there. I have complete confidence in him and this team,” Allen added.
Meanwhile, Buffalo will have to work on strengthening its team and overcoming the barriers that have kept them out of the big event. For now, his star quarterback's faith in McDermott remains intact, and the Bills will continue their quest to win the coveted championship.
