The Dallas Cowboys' shaky NFL season has sparked rumors about the future of head coach Mike McCarthy. With a 4-7 record and no contract beyond this season, his departure seems imminent, putting team owner Jerry Jones in the position of looking for a new leader for "the lone star." Among the names that have surfaced is Deion Sanders, but for an authoritative voice like Jimmy Johnson, that possibility is not realistic.
During his appearance on FS1's The Facility, Johnson, who led the Cowboys to two Super Bowls, made his opinion clear: "No, I don't think that will happen. I love Deion, his strength is attracting talent and he has an outstanding coaching staff in Colorado, but I don't see that working in Dallas."
Although Deion Sanders, known as "Prime," has surprised by transforming the Colorado team into a contender in just two years, Johnson believes his skills and leadership style fit better in the college environment.
Another name on the radar is Jason Witten, another Cowboys legend. Both Sanders and Witten know Jerry Jones and the team environment, which could give them an advantage, although the final decision will rest with Jones.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys face a difficult season, and questions about their coaching put pressure on their immediate future. Will McCarthy be able to finish strong and hold on, or is it time for a radical change?
