Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season featured one of its closest games with the Cincinnati Bengals' 17-16 victory over the Cleveland Browns, in a game that came down to the final offensive drive.
Joe Burrow, the Decisive Factor
Quarterback Joe Burrow looked sharp in key moments, throwing for 265 yards and a touchdown. Although he suffered an interception in the first half, he rebounded with leadership in the fourth quarter, leading the offensive drive that ultimately gave Cincinnati the lead.
Ja'Marr Chase, Unstoppable
Star receiver Ja'Marr Chase was once again the Bengals' main offensive weapon, making 9 receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown. His presence was key in opening up Cleveland's defense, which failed to contain him on long plays.
Browns let the win slip away
The Cleveland Browns had taken the lead thanks to a strong performance from Nick Chubb, who rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown. However, in the fourth quarter, the offense couldn't capitalize, and a missed field goal in the final seconds proved costly.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson completed 210 yards and a touchdown, but couldn't keep his cool in the final minutes.
An electrifying finish
With less than two minutes left, the Bengals rallied thanks to Evan McPherson's 49-yard field goal, sealing the score at 17-16. Cincinnati's defense held off the Browns' final drive and secured the victory.
Up Next
Bengals: They will face the Washington Commanders in Week 2, looking to extend their strong start.
Browns: They will visit the Las Vegas Raiders, forced to rebuild after the painful defeat.
The Bengals kicked off the season with a high-value divisional win, while the Browns will need to adjust quickly to avoid losing ground in the competitive AFC North.
