The San Francisco 49ers made an important move to strengthen their offense by promoting Brandin Cooks to the active roster.
The veteran receiver had joined the practice squad on September 23 and has now been added to the 53-man roster. San Francisco also signed wide receiver Malik Turner to the practice squad and released KhaDarel Hodge.
Cooks returns to NFL action with San Francisco
Cooks, 33, is in his 13th NFL season. During his career, he has played for the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and now the 49ers.
Through 173 regular-season games, Cooks has recorded 734 receptions, 9,811 receiving yards and 60 touchdowns.
San Francisco needs receiver depth
The move comes as the 49ers deal with significant injuries at wide receiver. Ricky Pearsall, Demarcus Robinson, De'Zhaun Stribling and Christian Kirk are on injured reserve, while Mike Evans and Brandon Aiyuk are also unavailable.
Cooks gives Brock Purdy an experienced option in the passing game as San Francisco looks to maintain its perfect start to the season.
