What does NFL mean?
National Football League, in Spanish it would be something like the National American Football League.

What is the NFL?

When was the NFL created?
It was created by eleven teams in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association (the league changed its name to the American Professional Football League in 1921 to change it once again to the current name in 1922)

How many teams participate in the NFL?
It is made up of 32 franchises established in various American cities and regions.

How many weeks does an NFL regular season have?
It has 17 weeks, in which each team has one week off (called a bye week)

How is the NFL structured in terms of competition?
It is divided into two Conferences: the National (NFC) and the American (AFC). In turn, each Conference is made up of four Divisions (North, South, East and West) and each of them, by four different teams. Each team plays six games against rivals from the same Division, as well as several inter-divisional and inter-conference duels. At the end of the regular season, six teams from each Conference play the playoffs, after that, comes the final of each conference, where the winners of each conference go directly to the dream game. A direct elimination system to a game between the twelve teams that culminates with the final game for the championship, known as the Super Bowl

Where is the Super Bowl played?
It is played in a predetermined city, normally in one with a team in the NFL.

Where is the Pro Bowl played?
In Honolulu, Hawaii

Who plays the Pro Bowl?
The American Conference vs the National Conference, both Conferences made up of their best players of that year.

Is American football the most popular in the United States? According to a survey (Harris Poll, supported by Harris Interactive) in 2008, professional American football was ranked ahead of baseball as the favorite sport, and American football’s television ratings in the United States exceed those of other sports.

How many players can an NFL team have?
A maximum of 53 players are allowed on each franchise’s roster, but they usually only use 45 for each game during the regular season.

Why is there no NFL team in Canada?
Mainly because of the fact that Canada has the Canadian Football League (CFL), a Canadian football league that resembles American football in many ways. However, the Buffalo Bills play one game a year (outside the CFL season) in Toronto, Ontario.

What is the most expensive NFL team?
The Dallas Cowboys are the most expensive team in the NFL thanks to their current owner Jerry Jones, worth approximately two billion one hundred million dollars, fifth place worldwide.

What is the NFL Draft?
It is the event where NFL teams look to add college players to their rosters.

When is the NFL Draft held?
During the month of April, this event is officially called the “NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting” and has been held every year in New York City since 1965.

What is the dynamics of the NFL Draft?
The team with the worst win/loss record from the last season picks first, with the second team picking the second worst record, and so on. With the final result of the regular season, the last two picks are reserved for the two teams that have played in the Super Bowl, with the winner of the Super Bowl picking last. The draft consists of seven rounds. The first two are held on Saturday, while the remaining five are held on Sunday. Teams have a limited time to select players. If they do not select within the predetermined time, they pass their turn to the next team, as happened to the Minnesota Vikings in 2003.

Can teams trade with each other in the NFL Draft?
Yes, teams have the possibility to trade their picks with other teams either for other picks or for players, money, or a combination of all of the above.

Why is the first pick in the NFL Draft so important?
The first pick in the draft is usually focused on the best college player at the moment. However, teams often draft more based on roster needs than on player potential. Still, it is considered a great honor to be drafted in the first round, and an even greater honor to be the number one pick in the draft.

When are there regular season NFL games?
Thursdays, Sundays and Mondays.

How are NFL players assigned numbers to teams?
In the NFL, players wear numbers on their jerseys based on the position they play. The current system was instituted in the league on April 5, 1973, as a means for fans and referees to more easily identify players on the field by their position. Since that date, players have worn numbers assigned within the following ranges, based on their primary position:

Quarterbacks, kickers and punters: 1 through 19.
Wide Receivers: 10 through 19 and 80 through 89.
Running backs and Defensive Backs (Safeties and Cornerbacks): 20 through 49.
Offensive linemen: 50 through 79.
Linebackers: 50 through 59 and 90 through 99.
Defensive linemen: 50 through 79 and 90 through 99.
Tight ends: 40 through 49 and 80 through 89.
The numbers 0 (zero) and 00 (double zero) have not been used by NFL players since 1973.

Who broadcasts NFL games on television in the United States?
The channels of the CBS, Fox and NBC networks, as well as the pay-TV networks ESPN and NFL Network.

Who broadcasts NFL games in Mexico?
Televisa, through its Gala TV channel, usually broadcasts 2 games on Sundays, TV Azteca broadcasts a special program at 12 noon called Ritual NFL, where they broadcast parts of the games that are taking place at that moment, the pay-TV networks ESPN and Fox Sports also broadcast a few games each week, and Sky, through the SKY NFL Sunday Ticket package, broadcasts the games of the Sunday schedule.
