Which teams have achieved a three-time championship?

The Kansas City Chiefs are one step away from making NFL history. If they defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, they will become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls, achieving the first three-peat in the modern era of the league.

So far, nine teams have managed to be two-time Super Bowl champions, but none of them have managed to reach a third consecutive Super Bowl, as the Chiefs will do on February 9 against the Eagles. The teams that have won in consecutive years are the Green Bay Packers (I and II), the Dolphins (VII and VIII), the Pittsburgh Steelers (twice: IX and X, and XIII and XIV), the San Francisco 49ers (XXIII and XXIV), the Dallas Cowboys (XXVII and XXVIII), the Denver Broncos (XXXII and XXXIII), the Patriots (XXXVIII and XXXIX), and most recently, the Chiefs (LVII and LVIII).

However, this does not mean that there has not been a three-time champion in NFL history. Prior to the merger with the AFL in 1970, the Packers achieved two consecutive three-time championships in the league. Founded in 1921, the Packers set the tone for professional football, winning NFL titles in 1929, 1930 and 1931, becoming the first organization to achieve three consecutive NFL championships.
