Lions achieve their 11th consecutive victory

The Detroit Lions continue to show why they are one of the most dominant teams in the NFL in 2023. With a dramatic 34-31 win over the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field, the Lions recorded their 11th consecutive victory, sealed their playoff berth and reaffirmed their position as the NFC's No. 1 seed.

A blowout win
Despite Jared Goff throwing three touchdown passes, Detroit needed a last-second 35-yard field goal from Jake Bates to prevail against a gritty Packers team, who remained competitive until the end. This was the third game-winning field goal of the season for Bates, who again showed his reliability in crucial moments.

Dan Campbell: Aggressiveness that pays dividends
Coach Dan Campbell once again demonstrated his bold style by taking five fourth downs, succeeding on four of them. One of the biggest was in the fourth quarter, when he decided to go for a fourth-and-one at the Green Bay 21 with just 43 seconds left. This play ensured that the Lions could run out the clock and seal their victory without giving the ball back to the Packers.

David Montgomery made a key play by running seven yards after receiving a pass from Goff, who had previously tripped and fallen to the ground. The action allowed Detroit to position itself for the decisive field goal.

Historic record and leadership in the NFC
With their eleventh consecutive victory, the Lions set a franchise record, maintaining an advantage in the NFC North over the Minnesota Vikings (10-2) and a game and a half ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles in the fight for first place in the conference.

The development of the game
Detroit started strong in the first quarter with a touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Sam LaPorta on a fake play that surprised the opposing defense. Before halftime, Goff connected with Jahmyr Gibbs on a fourth-down play to take a 17-7 lead into the break.

The Packers, led by Jordan Love, responded in the third quarter with a 61-yard pass to Christian Watson and another touchdown pass from Tucker Kraft, cutting the Lions' lead to 24-21. In the fourth quarter, Josh Jacobs ran for two touchdowns to put Green Bay ahead for the first time in the game. However, Detroit regained the lead, and the Packers tied it on a 32-yard field goal by Brandon McManus.

The Lions ultimately put together a flawless offensive drive in the final three and a half minutes to set up Bates' game-winning field goal, sealing the win and their playoff berth.
